Looking Cheap

I am very lucky. I have some really awesome friends. And my awesome friends have awesome ideas. This is one of them that I stole from Alisha. You should see her playroom; it is amazing. Mine is less impressive, but I’m working on it. This shelf of books you see is 7 feet of rain gutter. We got 10 feet of it for $7 at Home Depot. We screwed it into some studs and voila! It is a great bookshelf because the books are at eye-level for Darby and her friends AND they are all facing forward so that the kids aren’t just pulling out books because they can’t see the covers. And it is simple, cheap, and space-saving; three of my favorite things!

What are some of your really great and cheap ideas?

  1. We've actually done this one! I needed a necklace holder. I found a cup holder for a few dollars at Wal-Mart. It works great holding my necklaces.

  2. I wish I had 7 ft. of wall anywhere to do that because it is an excellent idea! Kacey's bookshelf is always in disaray, and half of the books are always on the floor in front of the bookcase.
Hmmmm....to build on Patrice's also excellent idea- I bought a hanger for pants that has 4 free-swinging arms (the kind that you fold the pants over). It is great for organizing bracelets, rings, and necklaces. The only draw back is that you have to remove the ones you don't want to wear to get to the one that you do.

  3. I don't have any good ideas for you right now, but I love that idea. It looks great in your playroom too. I'll have to remember that one.

  4. I am super lame with it comes to ideas. SUPER SUPER lame. My only brush with genius was when I figured out that I should cut up pieces of meat and then individually freeze them for my child. That way I can take out a small piece of chicken and I don't have to waste the whole thing if she doesn't eat it. (or risk eating it myself).

    Frozen meat slices? PATENT PENDING
